Another Attack!

Kai runs from the smithy, Rysmarin not far behind. Noticing elves running to the southwest, Kai knows basically where to head, having done this before.

Taking off at a run, Kai and Rysmarin find numerous elves standing their ground in the section of jungle that last major attack was in, where Krod and Korwin gave their lives. Cas sits center of the group of elves. Moving up behind the lines, Cas notices both members.

"Kai Vendriss and Rysmarin, be still."

Kai and Rysmarin come to a stop. Cas raises a wand and points it first at Kai, then at Rysmarin. He quickly lowers the wand.

"You are now both protected from negative energy."

He quickly turns back to the face the oncoming threat.

Kai and Rysmarin both notice heavy undergrowth moving as something moves closer to them. From the heavy foliage bursts a human wearing chainmail, with a haversack over his back. In one hand he holds a mace. He is not looking forward, but backwards. He raises the hand not using the mace and a blast of energy disappears into the jungle. The man quickly turns his head forward and notices the elves for the first time, bows drawn, beads on him.

From behind the man bursts four spectres, silently rushing the newcomer.

((Kai is patiently waiting, mid-step, for his eyes to start working ))

Iago will first use Knowledge Devotion and the skill trick Collector of Stories to ID them for extra damage.

Knowledge (Religion) +25

(Skill trick Collector of Stories gives a +5 bonus to IDing monsters, which I believe is what happens)

Fly up 20 feet, and Eldritch Blast the specter at G4

The newcomer, seeing the elves in front of him, turns, lifts off the ground (to the amazement of the elves, half who keep their arrows on him) and fires a bolt of energy into one of the spectres. The spectres takes the bolt with flinching.

Cas's voice carries across the battlefield, amplified by magic.

"Attack the spectres, leave the human to me."

Immediately nine arrows fire into the vicinity of the spectres, of which seven find their mark, two arrows in three of the spectres and three in a fourth, the last arrow being particularly vicious.

Cas pulls another wand from his belt, pointing it at the back of the flying human figure. Mumbling a word, a dozen large bats appear around the human, diving to and fro. They never touch the human, nor attack him, but attempt to keep him occupied. ((Iago -5 to attack anything but the bats))

KAI

Cursing under his breath at the appearance of the spectres, Kai fades from view and moves into position in front of the elves (E8). There he waits for the spectres to approach.

Rysmarin

Rysmarin eyes the undead with disdain as he walked forward, fire crackling at his fingertips as he muttered words from deep within himself and subconciously made the intricate gestures that would bring forth his arcane might. A red bead of flame streaked from his fingers to a point between two of the specters, where he intended for it to explode.

Iago flinches as bats surround him and a fireball fills the area immediately in front of him.

(Curious: do the bats make it hard for others to attack me?)

((Yes and No. Magic Missile wouldn't fail, nor would the spectres themselves as they are semi-incorporeal. Arrows would have a greater chance of hitting the bats then you.))

"Hellfire and damnation!"

Iago will target the specter he first fired upon.

Attack: 7+8 = 15

Damage: 3+1+1+5+5 = 15

As the battle begins in full force, Kai disappears from sight.

Rysmarin moves foward between the elves and, pointing his finger, lets loose a red pebble which shoots off towards the spectres. At the last second, when Rysmarin expected it to explode, the pebble veers off and travels about fifteen further then he wanted, exploding behind the spectres (I2). The fireball scorches all the spectres, but stops short of the flying human and the bats. Two of the spectres scream as the fires burns them away to nothing.

The human makes his attack at the same time as Rysmarin, pointing his finger and letting loose a bolt of energy. Unfortunately, his target is already dead from the fireball blast when the bolt of energy hits.

The remaining spectres, intent upon their target, float up and move to attack the human. Both spectres fly up and enter into an area of direct sunlight, freezing in their tracks.

The elves follow with more arrows. Another spectre disappears from the onslaught.
