Elven Encampment

KORWIN

Smiling brightly at the helpful girl, Korwin bows deeply and moves through the smithy to the back looking for the owner of the booming voice.

Kai approaches the building that he recalls being labeled as the smithy and firmly knocks on the door ((if the door is already open, he will instead knock on the frame)).

I wonder if they are here...

The door to the smithy opens for Kai, and a small elven lass is holding it.

"Yes. May I he ... wait, your with the other two aren't you? The very tall one and the very short one? They are in the back with my father. It's to the left at the back."

"Thank you. I was hoping to find them here."

With a small, respectful bow to the female, Kai follows the lass' instructions and walks to the left at the back.

Kai catches up to Korwin and Krod as they enter the back room, just about to speak to what appears to be a large muscled elf, two younger elves behind him and watching the exchange. Four anvils are centered around a blazing fire, tools of the trade strung about.

"Korwin, Krod, I thought I might catch you here."

Kai looks at the muscled elf and gives a slight bow of respect.

"Well met, Master...?"

KORWIN

Glancing at Kai's abrupt arrival, Korwin decides to hold his tongue and wait to see what Kai has to say.

Krod grabs Kai, lifts him up so they see eye to eye and says sternly, "Korwin talk, don't inn-turr-rupt again." Krod sets Kai down and then stands there waiting for Korwin to continue.

KORWIN

Korwin coughs slightly behind his hand stifling a small smile and continues, "As I was just about to say... we have several items of fine quality. Some longswords... some armor... We were wondering if you might find a use for it in resale and perhaps be willing to purchase these items from us at a discount to you of course."


Korwin then opens his haversack and withdraws one example of each to show to the smith.

"My name is ..." the smith begins before watching the unfolding confrontation between the giant man and the human.

Surprise quickly turns to anger and the barrel of an elf steps forward, ire rising in his voice as he confronts Krod. Absolute authority can be heard in his voice, as if he is used to being instantly obeyed, and surveying his build, you are sure it is an earned respect.

"There was no need to be rude. He asked a simple question. If you all can't act proper-like, you all are free to leave."

Crossings his hands across his massive chest, the smith waits for an answer from Krod, completely ignoring the question posed by Korwin, while his apprentices appear apprehensive behind him.

Krod looks down at the man with interest. Maybe Krod fight soon "Korwin start to talk, Kai inn-turr-rupt, you not like too bad" Krod stares hard at the man, challenging him with his eyes.

"Then consider our business finished. You can exit the way you entered."

Turning, the elf returns to instructing his apprentices in their work.

KORWIN

Scowling at Kai's interruption and now the smith's rudeness, Korwin stows the longsword and armor back in his haversack and grabs Krod's offhand before saying, "Come on Krod, it's not worth it. He obviously doesn't care to do business with us, and I know I certainly don't want to do business with him. We'll just hang on to the goods and maybe find somewhere else that feels like being reasonable to potential customers."

Sighing, Korwin turns his back on the entire scene, attempting rather ineffectually to drag Krod with him.

After a few seconds Krod realizes that Korwin is tugging on his hand, and snapping out of his stare turns and nods to Korwin. "Krod done with all elf men, their mouth bigger than their sword, Krod leave town now." Krod follows Korwin out of the tree.

KORWIN

Steps outside the smithy and quickly inventories his gear. Making sure that there's a place for everything, and everything is in its place, Korwin looks around, notes the position of the archer's towers and points to the west. Taking up a point position, Korwin begins searching for threats long before leaving the confines of the camp.

As he walks, Korwin unhooks his spiked chain, carrying it lightly in his right hand.

Krod grins as Korwin heads west and he too loosens his spiked chain in anticipation as he follows. "Korwin make Krod happy, Krod tired of being prizznur"

KAI

Kai opens his mouth to speak but stops as the smith begins to speak. As the situation escalates, he sighs, seeing the situation spiral out of control quickly. As Korwin and Krod turn to leave, Kai again opens his mouth but, seeing the determination in both of their faces, decides against speaking but instead watches them exit the building.

Looking at the map Korwin is easily able to tell the west is the least heavily guarded section of the encampment, while the south and east are far more fortified. Searching the trees, he is able to three of the western archer towers, around 30 feet up in the trees, 15 yards apart. The way the tower is built, a small base with a full wooden railing all the way around, makes it hard to tell how many archers, if any, are positioned in there.

KORWIN

Noting the locations of the towers, Korwin decides to just walk purposefully out of the camp without trying to be furtive at all.

If we get caught trying to be sneaky, things will not go well for us. If we can just walk out of here with a sense of purpose, people rarely disturb someone that looks like they're on a mission.

Increasing the length of his stride, Korwin picks up the pace a little which is easily matched by Krod. A grim resolve settles across his features as he strides purposefully to the west.

Hopefully the elves are more concerned with keeping intruders OUT, instead of holding people IN.

Watching Korwin study the paper Krod keeps an eye out for any hostile movements. As Korwin once again steps out and picks up the pace Krod does the same.

Maybe Korwin find fight on paper

Walking purposefully towards the west, Korwin is able to sight two of the archers’ towers as they get closer. Walking in between them, one is about 20 feet to the south while the other is still off a distance to the northwest, around 40-50 feet or so. Continuing their brisk pace, Korwin is surprised when no alarm is raised. Turning to look at the southern tower, both Korwin and Krod can make out what appears to be an elf on deck, but he is facing away.

To the west the jungle starts to thicken as the group comes to the end of the cultivated area of the encampment. Still no warning cry as both members start forward when, from the northwest tower the group hears, “Halt! You have reached the end of the encampment, friend, and you have been told to stay inside, turn around now or be …. ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!”. A scream of horror and pain echoes through the air. Turning to look at the northwest tower, the group is able to make out two figures, one clearly an elf the other … something else. It appears to be flickering in and out of your sight as the elf thrashes in agony. He does manage, however, to bring an object to his lips and, with his dying breath, blow a clear horn sound into the sky.

Almost instantly the southern tower is alert and looking northwest. A second horn call follows quickly, then a third. Horn calls echo through the forest as they ring the encampment.

Still not sure what is going on, the group stand their ground. Within seconds after hearing the last horn blast, both Krod and Korwin hear the sound of the jungle rustling. The sound gets closer and yet, seems to surround them.

Suddenly an ogre shambles through the forest. Large and smelly, the only thing different about this ogre from any other is the amount of skin falling from him. Rotting meat hangs from his arms and legs, stomach and face as the best slowly but surely makes his way through the dense undergrowth.

Krod hesitates for only a second as the foul-smelling rotting beast emerges from the jungle.

KORWIN

Korwin sees the struggle on the northern platform and hears something shambling through the jungle growth and says quietly to Krod, "Looks like you got the fight you've been looking for. I suppose we should help the elves defend against this threat, eh?"

Unsnaking his spiked chain, Korwin sees the huge beast heading towards them (( how far away? )) and prepares for combat.

Out of the corner of his eye, Korwin is able to spot more, smaller, rustling in the jungle around the party. One figure furthest to the northwest and another to the southwest appear to be human, wearing metal armor and carrying swords. Only bones show where there should be skin though.

A third figure, just north of the monstrous ogre, shambles along, closing on the party slowly, but consistently. He appears more like the ogre, only human, or humanoid atleast, as his skin is falling from his body in even more places than the bigger one.

The fourth figure, almost directly to the south, looks like an elf, wearing a black metal helm with a black breastplate. It carries a pair of short swords and is the most furtive of the group, moving between trees and underbrush in precise movements designed to keep it hidden.

DM EDIT: Movement rules in my jungle. In dense undergrowth such as this, regular full movement is not penalized, meaning you can move your move without penalty. If you move faster (such as a run) you must roll a DC 25 Dex check to see if you trip. If you fail, you fall prone in the spot you started your movement from.

Studying the approaching opponents from different directions for but a moment Krod moves to engage the large smelly one first ((G7)) unleashing his spiked chain as he moves. With a strong sweep of his arm the spiked chain flies out towards the ogre, the spikes sending chunks of rotting flesh as he pulls it through and the acid rapidly dissolving even more.
