The Plane of Shadow

Kai finds himself alone in the clearing where Cas and Foerian just were. Nothing seems different about where he is, other then an unmistakable feeling of being antsy as well as being watched.

KAI

Kai, remembering Cas' instructions, calls out in a normal voice, tone low but audible.

"I, Kai Vendriss, call forth the Nobur to fulfill his oath to Casuliastantinionum, High Mage of Estorium."

If this thing is as powerful as Cas indicated, hopefully it will hear that and I won't have to draw undo attention yelling at the top of my lungs.

Kai does his best to blend in with his surroundings as he attempts to see if anything is indeed watching him.

Hide (1d20 + 13 + 10) = 8+23= 31
Search (1d20 + 9 + 10) = 16+19 = 35

Stating the words Cas had provided him, Kai quickly moves into the shadows and looks around for anything out of the ordinary, but finds nothing in the heavy underbrush of the jungle.

Long minutes pass as Kai stays hidden, unable to see anything out of the ordinary and waiting on the (hopefully) impending arrival of the Nobur.

Kai stops, listening intently to the world around him, trying to pick out any sounds that may indicate something approaching.

Listen (1d20 + 6) = 19 + 6 = 25

Kai listens intently but fails to hear anything out of the ordinary as the wind starts to pick up.

The noise of the wind, still picking up, momentarily blocks Kai's senses and in this moment Kai is attacked from behind. A slash burns across his back followed by a bite on his shoulder has Kai is violently forced forward. ((Kai takes 12 damage))

Kai attempts to turn the forward momentum into a roll, twisting around as he comes out of the roll, swords at the ready.

Tumble (1d20 + 17) = 3 + 17 = 20

While Kai is able to use the momentum from the blow to get to his feet facing his opponent, the heavy underbrush prevents him from wielding his weapons during the attempt.

As Kai comes to his feet he gets the first good look at his opponent, what appears to be a giant cat with a scraggly mane. It appears to be alone and its eyes alert Kai that it doesn't appear to stop its attack.

((Initiative please.))

KAI

As Kai comes to his feet, aggravated because of the dense underbrush, he quickly draws both weapons and prepares to receive the beast's assault.

Damn underbrush!

Initiative (1d20 + 8 ) = 9 + 8 = 17

"Come one then, let's see what you can do!"

Kai's words briefly slow the beasts advance, allowing Kai the first action.

Kai, memory serving him correctly, realizes there is little in the way of trees nearby but the underbrush hampers his movements somewhat ((Movement slowed by 10 or 25% chance to trip.))

Kai is currently about 15 feet from the beast.

KAI

Seeing the beast slow it's advance, Kai sets up to receive an assault and decides to see how the beast reacts.

"I don't know if you're the Nobur, but if not, be a good little kitty and go find another playmate. I'm only hear to see one person and if you're not the Nobur then you're not it. If you are, then I would much prefer conversing without the involvement of holes appearing in my body."

Kai suppresses a wince at the sting of the scratches and bite marks. He is ready to react should the cat either spring or charge. He also takes the chance to visually map out multiple routes that he can dive away should the creature end up beside or behind him.

Hopefully this thing doesn't have too many tricks up its sleeve.

The creature ignores Kai's words but doesn't begin stalking towards him again either. The wind continues to gain momentum and Kai has a hard time hearing or keeping his eyes open with the stinging wind blowing debris into them.

Attempting to keep an eye on the large beast through the wind, Kai is surprised when the animal is suddenly gone.

Round 2 begins

KAI

Kai immediately tucks his swords in and dives forward into a roll, turning at an angle as he comes up to allow himself, at least peripherally, to watch the direction the cat was versus the direction that Kai just came from.

Tumble (1d20 + 17) = 10 + 17 = 27

Kai comes up from his tumble and keeps an eye on his surroundings, particularly where he left from and where the beast was last seen, hoping for some clue as to it's whereabouts.

Listen (1d20 + 6) = 3 + 6 = 9

Once again the beast jumps from behind Kai and rakes his back, twice this time, followed by a bite on the hip. The momentum of the pounce again causes Kai to pitch forward. ((Kai takes 19 points of damage))

Round 3 begins

KAI

Kai, again, attempts to roll with the hit, cursing as he trips in the weeds and lands prone. He mentally activates his cloak (1 charge) and disappears from sight. As soon as he vanishes, he stands up, ready to receive the creatures assault should it come after him again.

Tumble (1d20 + 17) = 1 + 17 = FAIL

Kai's attempt to tumble himself upright is interrupted by a particularly thick bush and Kai finds himself unable to come to his feet easily.

Kai, invisible, stands and turns at the ready and notices the beast is nowhere to be seen.

Round 4 begins

KAI

Kai attempts to shift forward and to his left, moving as quietly as he can, waiting for the creature to move and hoping that it makes a sound that betrays it's approach.

Move Silently (1d20 + 23) = 11 + 23 = 34

KAI

As Kai shifts out of his position, he quietly thumbs one of the gems on his belt, allowing its energy to ease the pain of the claw and bite wounds.

1 charge (2d12) = 12 points of healing

Kai shifts and uses his belt without interruption.

Kai attempts to locate the creature, moving carefully to avoid betraying his position.

Spot (1d20 + 17) = 14 + 17 = 31

Kai glances around and notices the creature stalking through the underbrush about 15 feet from Kai, barely visible as it silently moves its way around.

Round 5 begins

KAI

Kai will attempt to move silently, positioning himself in such a way as to sneak attack the cat from invisibility. Once in position, he will attempt to plunge his blades home.

Move Silently (1d20 + 23 (-5 if he has to move more than 1/2 speed)) = 30 (25)

Primary Attack (1d20 + 8 + 2) = 6 + 10 = 16
Damage (1d6 + 3 + 1d6) = 6 + 3 + 2 = 11
Sneak attack damage (+3d6) = 13
Total Damage = 24

Offhand attack (1d20 + 8 (I don't think the offhand gets the +2 for invis - if it does, let me know) = 20+8 = 28
Damage (1d6 + 1) = 5+1 = 6
