DG Chapter 1: Fall of the Golden Tower

Brudegan yells at Nikolai, "My duty is the only thing I have left!" Brudegan then tumbles to E17 and attacks Nikolai for normal damage.

Tumble check: 10 +3 -2= 11
Attack: 17 + 5 +2 -2= 22
Damage: 7 + 2 + 1= 10

(Sorry about that guys. The shaken status means the character is mildly fearful. A shaken character takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.)

"Ach, so you want to try doing something now, ay? Let's see what you got."

Modis attacks Nikolai with both weapons.

Attack: Katana: 2+4-2=4
Wakizashi: 15+4-2=17

((um, where do I get the attack bonus from again? and would it be from both weapons?))

(You have to roll separately for each attack, so roll another d20 for your wakizashi. Your attack bonus when wielding both weapons is +4 for each weapon, not including modifiers like being shaken. So, your current modifier is +2 for each weapon)

Tyrian thrusts his hand at Nikolai, muttering an indecipherable word. A pale blue bolt shoots from his hand, impacting Nikolai.

Dodge feat vs Nikolai: + 1 AC
Magic Missile: 3 +1 = 4

Brudegan lands a solid blow on Nikolai, but the large man recovers and deflects Modis' first attack with his shield. Modis follows up with his wakizashi and slashes Nikolai across his arm. Tyrian then casts Magic Missile and Nikolai cringes in pain. Enraged by the attacks, Nikolai roars in anger. His muscles flex, he grits his teeth, and adrenaline surges through his body. He swings across his massive chest with his axe, catching Brudegan in the head with the flat of the blade. The impact is intense and Brudegan hears ringing in his skull.

(Brudegan is staggered. A staggered character has damage exactly equal to current hit points and may take a single move action or standard action each round [but not both, nor can he take a full-round action].)

Brudegan holds his head for a moment to stop the ringing. He also realizes that he can't take much more of this. In a slightly dizzy state Brudegan makes at least one last effort to help his friends and attacks Nikolai for non-lethal damage with his axe.

"Huh, so you do have some swing in you. Well, you still can't beat us!"
Modis attacks Nikolai for non-lethal damage with both his weapons.

Dropping his rapier, Tyrian draws out his bow. "Sorry about this. Hurts me more than you."

"Yes, yes it does."

Brudegan's last ditch effort is successful and he connects with Nikolai, returning the favor with a broad-side blow to Nikolai's skull. The barbarian stumbles, but recovers and swings one last time at Brudegan. The strike is off-balance, but still hits its mark and Brudegan's vision blurs ...

The rest of the PCs see their companion falter and fall after receiving a third tremendous blow. Nikolai still stands, but is bloodied and seriously injured. Although things seem desperate, Brudegan's attacks have weakened the bandit-lord and given his allies a real chance at victory.

"I ... I warned you," stammers Nikolai, staring wearily at his two remaining opponents. "Stop this nonsense. We ... can still ... save her."

(Nikolai takes 10 nonlethal damage this round.)

Nikolai's Damage Taken: 20 lethal +10 nonlethal

(Brudegan takes 8 nonlethal damage this round.)

Brudegan's Damage Taken: 12 lethal +20 nonlethal

(Brudegan is unconscious. A note about Cure spells: They heal an equal amount of lethal and nonlethal damage with each casting.)

Right before Brudegan losses consciousness he calls out, "Chayli!" He then falls to his knees and tips over onto his side, axe at his side.

"You've done it now, Frostmore! We end this NOW!"
Modis lashes out at Nikolai with the dull sides of his two swords.

"Or we could keep this up for awhile. Maybe give Brudegan some time to wake up."

Chayli emerges from her hiding place and sees what has happened to her friend Brudegan. The only thing on her mind is saving Brudegan, Modis, and Tyrian. She takes flight and charges Nikolai with her bite attack for full damage. (E18 is where she ends up)
