Fight or Flight?

LILAS

Lilas eyes widens in shock as the usual burst of flame that dissipates, suddenly flares up and stays burning, spreading like wild-fire.

Her jaw hangs open in amazement at the vivid burning flame.

"Well, that wasn't quite...expected. Normally my fireballs don't catch everything on fire outside of the area of effect....."

Tone is echoing and obvious of amazment and facials melt into a dream-like state of awe.

Wow! Not even dragon's breath usually do that outside of their area of effect, amazing!

Her little pseudodragon comments, even pausing to notice the damage, and swooping down to possibly sense the enemy, it had to be either in the fire, or near it, no doubt, he is gonna sense it.

The party stands on edge as, even if the beasts’ movements were it withdrawing, it no doubt knows exactly where the party is now. The amount of smoke from the burning jungle is immense and Kai quickly find his eyes burning from it. Hoping not to give his position away, he stays put throughout.

As the party waits, the figure of a HUGE wolf makes it way through the burning jungle to the southeast, seemingly barely bothered by the fire. Upon clearing the smoke, the party notices this is the same wolf ridden by the bounty hunter at the orc camp, but the wolf is alone, with no rider on its back. As soon as the beasts head clears the smoke and it can see once more its eyes focus on Krod. A growl escapes its lips and it bounds forward with uncanny speed, and stands before Krod in a split second, bypassing the unseen Kai completely.

KROD

As the beast crashes through the underbrush, Krod readies himself and as the wolf reaches 15 ft, swings his spiked chain at him.

LILAS

Lilas seeing the fireball strike the tree, knowing Kai is somewhere nearby, winces as the wolf bounds in a totally opposite area of where she last heard it.

"Sorry Kai, didn't see that tree!"

Knowing Kai would be yelling at her afterwards, she decides to take a five foot step backwards, before launching a spell towards the wolf, aiming carefully so it would not hit yet another fighter.

KAI

Kai lunges forward after the wolf passes, attempting to stab the wolf, trying to blink the smoke out of his eyes as he does so.

How can something so big move so fast!!!

Krod, looking up into the eyes of the wolf, swings his chain round and easily hits it. Kai’s stab misses and pulls him from hiding.

The wolf charges straight at Krod, shrugging off the blow from the chain, and bites him. Locking down on Krod’s leg, the wolf yanks his head back, easily pulling Krod to the ground (Krod takes 15 dmg).

KAI

Kai moves towards the wolf's flank ((L10)) and attempts to ram both blades home.

Primary Attack (1d20+(8-2-1)=19)
Damage (5d6+2=25)

Second Attack (1d20+(8-2-1)=18)
Damage (4d6+1=13)

Seeing the damage that the wolf caused to Krod, Kai works to stay away from the jaws.

Gotta stay away from those teeth. Gods but that thing is huge!

KORWIN

Korwin watches the events unfold before him and examines his options.

Wow, that thing is HUGE! But where is his rider? I'm betting this is just a lure to draw us all out into the open. And that leaves two more bounty hunters unaccounted for.

Throwing caution to the wind and accepting the consequences, Korwin wades into the fray, (( H 8 in a flanking position with Kai )) swinging his spiked chain overhead as he strikes out at the beast's hind leg before disappearing from view.

Attack, Damage (1d20+11-2=23, 1d6=1) = 25

Knowing that his last strike was rather ineffectual, Korwin focuses his mental abilities and fades from view, hoping to catch the beast a bit more unaware next time.

Kai moves towards the flank of the beast and stabs with both. Both blades puncture the rear leg, causing severe damage. The wolf howls in pain and its right flank falls to the ground. Even still, the beast is taller then anybody surrounding it.

Korwin rushes forward and spins his chain overhead, lashing out at the wolf, drawing a small gash the wolf barely notices.

The wolf turns to attack Kai as three bolts of energy slam into it, Lilas spell having beat the wolf to the target. The wolf lets out a half-hearted howl before falling to the ground, no longer moving.

Instantly, and silently, two arrows strike Lilas, one in her left shoulder, turning her into the second arrow, which takes her in the throat. Lilas falls silently to the ground, unnoticed by the party members below.

The dwarf, still up in his tree, yells out, “There, to the northeast, it’s Silar. He has shot the magelady.”

DM EDIT: The wolf is dead before your attack, Krod, so you can edit your post.

Krod, the fury of barbarian rage still pumping in his veins, roars in frustration as the wolf falls before he can swing at it. Hearing the words of another enemy nearby, Krod moves northeast in search of something to hit ((please move him up to 40' towards the enemy, best guess since I have no actual location of Silas)).

Krod mad, Li Lass dead, Krod make arrow-man dead

Kai turns his eyes to the northeast, searching for any sign of the vreshka.

Search (1d20+9-2-1) = 11+6 = 17

If Kai does not see any sign of the vreshka, he will seek to climb a tree (that is not on fire) attempting to find a better vantage point.

KORWIN

Korwin darts quickly away so as not to be crushed by the fallen beast and quickly searches for signs of the person that fired those arrows into Lilas before moving in the opposite direction that Krod did, to C4 and hiding before he fades back into view.

Kai will move to the edge of the smoke ((K3)), attempting to keep a tree between him and the area north/north east of his position. Using the smoke and tree as cover, Kai attempts to keep out of sight and peers around for the source of the arrows.

Hide: 'd20' : 3 + 14 - 2 = 15

Krod stands at the edge of the forest ((I1)) waiting for a sign of the archer.

Krod stomps north in his rage, hoping to see the arrow-shooting menace, but finds nothing.

ROUND TWO BEGIN

Kai, hoping the smoke will cover him while he searches for their foe, moves north a little to better cover the jungle, but finds nothing.

The dwarf jumps from his tree, tumbling upon impact with the ground and comes up running, starting up the path to the top of the hill.

Korwin, unsure of the location of the sniper, moves around the backend of the hill, silent and invisible.

Kai hears a rustle above him and as he looks up, notices a figure in the trees about ten feet up, previously hidden from view. The figure jumps from one branch to the next, turns and fires two arrows at the same time at Kai. Both arrows slam hard into Kai ((Kai 19 damage)).

Order of Battle Remaining:

Krod

Krod sees the archer in the trees as he shoots Kai and roaring with rage moves 10 ft to the east (or 15 if required to get a hit on him - I have 15' of reach with the spiked chain)

Attack:'d20' : 18 + 16 = 34
Damage:2 'd6' : 2, 3 + 15 = 20

Krod rushes forward in rage, whirling his chain overhead and slinging it towards the figure in the trees. Krod sees what appears to be an orc, although intermingled with something else, perched, confidence and anger in its eyes. The chain whistles through the air and slams into the orc, hitting it solidly on its left side. The force from the blow is so great, the orc loses his balance. He seems about to catch it for a second before falling off the branch forward, landing on the ground next to Krod. Amazingly the orc lands on his feet.

KORWIN

Korwin, noticing the location of the enemy for the first time, bursts out of hiding and runs to I-2 before fading from view. Applying his mental abilities to control his breathing, he focuses on what he must do at his next opportunity. The surrounding environment becomes crystal clear as his senses pick up all of the tiny nuances around him, air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, heart rate of the enemy and that of Kai and Krod as well. Korwin takes it all in and focuses... waiting...

Kai moves to K1 in order to flank the creatures with Krod. He attempts to stab one of his blades into the orc-thing's kidney, the other aimed at the back of the right lung. ((If this move will provoke any AOO, please let me know as I may change the movement. I am not completely familiar with all of the movement situations that provoke AOO's. Also, if the creature has any arcane ability, the second attack is at an additional +2 and, if successful, will do +2d6 damage))

Attack (1d20+8-2) = 12+8-2 = 18

Kai, noticing the figure is carrying a bow, easily makes his way through the jungle to position himself behind the orc. While passing him, Kai notices that the orc isn’t a normal orc, but has scales over its body instead of the normal skin. The face also appears slightly elongated and the ends of the fingers come to claws instead of nails. Ignoring this for a second, Kai takes position behind the figure, flanking it with Krod, and attempts to stab it twice, both unsuccessful.

The dwarf, seeing the fight progress in the jungle, changes his momentum and runs closer to the battle, instead of up the hill.

Korwin continues his movement forward, running full speed close to the orc. Korwin feels a strange connection with the orc, something in his blood, as he uses his ability to turn invisible again.

Silar, surrounded and outnumbered, tumbles out of combat with surprising agility. Coming up further into the jungle, Silar turns and takes two shots at Krod, which lodge firmly in his right side. ((Krod takes 22 damage))

DM Edit: While in the jungle ((Kai, Krod, and Silar are all currently *in* the jungle. Korwin and the Dwarf are just outside)) all combatants receive a 10% concealment.

Round Three:

Krod

Glaring at the Orc as he tumbles away Krod swings his spiked chain as the Orc fires two arrows at him ((since he is 10' away I'm taking my AOO as well unless I'm reading the map wrong)).

AOO Attack:1d20+16=19+16=35
AOO Damage: 2d6+15=10+15=25

Thinking back to his tactics training, Krod grins slightly as he attempts to trip the archer to slow him down some.

Touch attack to trip: 1d20+16=22

KORWIN

Korwin, his mind steady and focused, concentrates on his technique, moves to G3 and flicks his wrist as the chain uncoils toward the enemy, and then sharply jerking the chain back, hoping to slice the enemy's stkin to ribbons

Attack: 19 + 11 = 30 (( The -2 is offset by the +2 I get for attacking from invisible ))

Damage: 5

Sudden Strike: 9

Total Damage = 14

Korwin finishes his attack as the chain comes back to him and he fades from view once more.
