Regana follows Modis and pulls a wand from a side pocket of her pack. She taps him on the shoulder to cast Heal Light Wounds.

3 + 2 = 5

(Question, would I use the Heal skill in a check like this? If not, can I get an example of when I would? Thankees.)

(A traditional Wand of Cure Light Wounds heals 1d8+1 damage per use, so Modis would heal 4hp from this activation.)

(The Heal skill is used to stabilize dying allies, identify and treat poisons and diseases, treat debilitating wounds from caltrops and the like, and provide long-term care to allies to accelerate natural healing. It represents mundane medical practices, as opposed to magical healing that can immediately restore hit points and remove poison and diseases.)

Wakizashi: Attack: 6+9=15 Damage: 1+2=3

(FYI, you take a -4 penalty on attack when fighting defensively, but in this case it didn't matter.)

Modis' attacks both miss, one scraping against the metal body of the creature and the other slashing air. However, Modis' posture and blade position are lined up well to defend against the next volley of scimitars.

Brudegan's axe swings through, but is caught in two of the creature's curved blades.

Chayli scampers over to the side of the melee, well clear of it, and breaths fire again, managing to miss her two allies. The line of fire only glances the creature however.

(The creature takes 1 fire damage.)

The missile slams into the enemy, which is severely damaged at this point. It takes four swings at Modis, the first of which catches him across the neck. Luckily, it misses any vitals and the pain causes a rush of adrenaline in the cleric/samurai. With a flourish of whirling blades, Modis counters the other three attacks with superb swordplay. This is a very good thing, as Modis is near unconsciousness.

(Modis takes 6 damage from a critical hit.)

(Regana's turn.)

The Clockwork Assassin falls to pieces, arms and swords and legs making a racket as they collapse in a heap upon the ground. Now that the chaos of battle has subsided, the group notices a body near where the Clockwork Assassin was hiding. Apparently one of the construct's victims, the man appears to have been a merchant fleeing from Marastrianna's Tower. 1,268gp worth of mundane goods and coins are found on or near his corpse.

(Well done! The Clockwork Assassin is one of the custom monsters I created for this campaign. I'm glad my estimates on its Challenge Rating were correct. Unfortunately, work has been crazy the past few days and I'm also pursuing a new job, so my posts will be sporadic for the next two weeks. Please continue on to the town. You will face no further encounters, so use this time to roleplay and get to know each others' characters.)

"He shouldn't have been travelling alone. We would have faced the same fate were we not together."
